Best of 2008 Releases
“Best of 2008 music lists are the hipster version of Fantasy Football”
-Alex Perron
I’m giving in because I’ve enjoyed your lists thus far, and I keep on changing mine, so without further ado:
Honorable Mention:
Hot Chip - Made In The Dark (I actually got into this more a year ago with the leak that came out, and while most of the dance singles lost their appeal to me, the...
I have my “best releases of the year” done, but I’d rather not post it, and post my favorite song of the year. It only comes in a single form, on pitchfork.tv, and will probably never be played again: A jam session between !!! and The Field. In essence, this is what I love about dance music. Ecstacy at the drum breakdown. I love the repetition of the Field, I love the rhythm...

My love for Bradford Cox continues in this great video of Pitchfork Festival 2008. Watch out for the lame guy in green at the end of the video.

I’m so fucking excited for this. So damn funky!!!
Beatles - A Day in the Life (Brassica Remix) →
Definitely different. I don’t know how much I like the second half of the song, but considering it’s one of the best songs of all time, a really weird remix can’t be too much of a bad thing, right?
The Avalanches - Some People →
This is over a year old, but I found it on my itunes the other day. If you don’t know the Avalanches, you really should. Before Girl Talk, way back in 2001, the Avalanches were one of the first bands to make sample-heavy music (well, DJ Shadow was doing it back in 1997). Their album, Since I Left You, includes over 3,500 vinyl samples. This is a newer mix leading up to their new album that...

I can’t wait to play this jam.

Um, yeah, hey….talking about terrorism isn’t being a terrorist. I knew something like this would happen soon enough.

Oh my goodness!!!
I read on an interview that First Ave. was their favorite crowd from the Return to Cookie Mountain US tour. I missed that show (which Grizzly Bear was opening) due to having my wisdom teeth pulled the day before. Now I get to make up for long time. I’m very excited for their new one.

Favorite Releases of 2008...so far
Copying my brah with this one:
1. Cut Copy - In Ghost Colours
I never get sick of this album, even though I play it constantly and there are 100+ remixes of it. Last year was the year of Justice, but Cut Copy has made a smarter, more solid anthem for 2008.
2. Air France - No Way Down EP
This album takes what I love classic pop’s melodies and dance music’s textures. Those...
